The potential passage of new 1099 reporting legislation revealed a weak link in some of our accounts payable functions. Many had poor master vendor file practices and even worse procedures for soliciting taxpayer identification numbers (TINs) for information reporting purposes.  To be fair, many found that their practices, while within the letter of the law, do not permit them to do required reporting.  This webinar was created to help those utilizing sub-par practices as well as those whose practices, while acceptable under IRS standards, do not allow for the issuance of error-free 1099s.

After this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify problems within their existing master vendor file practices;
  • Implement master vendor file best practices that will enable proper TIN solicitation;
  • Make their master vendor file fraud-resistant;
  • Collect taxpayer information in a way that will allow them to comply with all IRS regs;
  • Correctly sign up for and use the IRS TIN Matching service
  • Incorporate any changes in the law into their current practices;
  • Correctly handle employees in the master vendor file for tax reporting purposes;
  • Understand how information reporting for credit card payments works and how it can help reduce an organization’s reporting burden;
  • Correctly report items covered by the Sunshine Act.

There will be plenty of time at the end of the session to ask questions. Once you've registered, send your e-mail questions in advance topublisher@ap-now.com and they will be included in the program. You'll also have a chance to post questions during the Webinar.

About our Expert: Mary Schaeffer has the inimitable ability to find accounts-payable-related solutions that really work—without making a major dent in the bottom line. Armed with a degree in math and a graduate degree in finance, she takes a “roll up your sleeves and dig into the details” approach to finding solutions to those problems that cause migraines for CFOs, controllers, and managers.

Fifteen years spent researching and writing about payment issues gives Mary Schaeffer a unique vantage point. Combine that with an almost equal amount of time spent in the corporate trenches of several large finance and treasury departments and you’ll see why she’s become known as America’s leading accounts payable expert.

A wide variety of institutions have taken advantage of her unique expertise: John Wiley & Sons has published over a dozen of her books; CRYSTALLUS, Inc. (www.ap-now.com) relies on her know-how to direct its professional publication, training, and consulting business; and the AICPA features her articles in its Corporate Finance Insider. The New York Times recently interviewed her on T&E and let’s not overlook the long list of organizations that have turned to her for best practice guidance of their accounts payable function and training of their accounts payable staff.

Ms. Schaeffer has a BS in Mathematics from York College (CUNY) and a MBA in Finance from New York University.
