Sales & Use Tax Week: Online Seminars
Sponsored by Accounts Payable Now & Tomorrow, a Crystallus, Inc. publication
Sales and Use Tax Week
Third Set: Week of October 17, 2011
The recession took its toll on the finances of state governments, causing them to lose nearly one-third of their revenue in 2009, according to a recently-released Census Bureau report. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to those reading this to learn many are aggressively looking for any income they can lay their hands on. This leaves those not paying their sales and use tax properly open for audits, fines and additional government scrutiny.
That’s why we decided to devote a whole week to covering sales and Use Tax – both at the global level and then down to the state level. We’ve designated the week of October 17th as Sales and Use Tax week and will host a series of webinars, each focusing on the biggest states. But, before we delve into the state information, we feel it’s imperative that we look at the basics.
We’re actually going to kick off Sales and Use Tax early by running a free Sales and Use Tax: Big Problems webinar on, October 11, 2011. Details along with a registration link will be published in our weekly e-zine. Sign up here to receive the e-zine and notification of the free Sales and Use Tax Big Problems webinar. Note: We ran this in the spring and it got rave reviews, which is why we are repeating it.
The State Sales and Use Tax webinars
In these state-specific webinars, you will learn how to apply the concepts discussed above to the given state. There is a discussion of the highly variable taxing policies from two perspectives: what the specific state under discussion does, and what the general practices are throughout the US. This will give you the knowledge about your state's rules, and also give you some context for understanding how the rules are more generally applied. It will provide you the information you need to craft best practices for your organization.
Taxing policies based on the types of organizations involved (government, charitable, etc.) as well as major industries like manufacturing and construction will be addressed.
Other taxing policies including resale, containers, computers and software, rentals, food, clothing, and a variety of services including repair labor, freight charges, janitorial and personnel services will also be covered. Plus much more!
