Is there a ticking escheat bomb waiting to explode in your organization. Many have one and choose to look the other way. A major financial exposure for all organizations—both large and small—is their compliance with state abandoned property laws. Laws in all US states and territories require businesses to report and remit outstanding liabilities.
Items such as uncashed payroll and vendor checks, unclaimed dividends and securities, unredeemed gift certificates and rebates, as well as unidentified remittances that have not been claimed by the owner within a specified period of time are supposed to be remitted to the states. The time that businesses have to comply with these laws is being shortened by many states and audit activity is at an all-time high.
It should come as no surprise to learn that a number of the states have made changes that make reporting a real challenge. Changes in reporting dates, gift card exemptions and the potential look-back period for voluntary disclosure agreements have all taken place in 2011.
Please join us for 60-fast paced minutes as Tracey Reid, President of Reid Unclaimed Property Services brings you and your team up to date on what you need to know to make sure you comply with Unclaimed Property Reporting requirements and avoid a disaster if audited.
Additionally, she’ll discuss the new special insurance industry target audits. She’ll show you how to:
- Comply with the latest changes
- Identify hidden unclaimed property obligations in your company
- Recognize unclaimed property audit red flags on your reports
- Prevent unclaimed property fraud in your company
- Successfully manage any unclaimed property audit
- Streamline your company’s unclaimed property policies and procedures
- Update you on all of the recent law changes and cases that can affect your industry
